Biography
Preston born Daniel was first introduced to music as a treble at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral, under the direction of Professor Ian Tracey. From there he joined the London Oratory Schola whose film credits include Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. (Musical Director Mike McCarthy)
Daniel then moved on to Sheffield, were he studied to masters level. During his time there, as well as running and conducting various choirs and orchestras, Daniel became a songman in several northern cathedrals, including Sheffield, Liverpool, and York Minster, and sung with the BBC Pilgrim singers.
Daniel currently studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, with generous awards from the Foyle Foundation and the Countess of Munster.
Daniel’s operatic performances have included the title role in the premiere of ‘Nijinskys Eye’ by Tom James, (a role written especially for him) and leading roles in toured productions of the baroque operas ‘La Purpura de la Rosa’, and newly discovered ‘Armonya de los tres Mundos’, with renowned harpist Andrew Lawrence-King. Other roles include Unulfo in Handel’s ‘Rodelinda’ and Amore in Monteverdi’s ‘Poppea’, directed by Marco Ozbic, of Opera san Carlo, Naples, and this year ‘Amore’ and ‘Valetto’ with Christian Curnyn at Iford. In spring of this year, Daniel performed in Scottish Opera’s ‘five:15’, and has covered their production of Judith Weir's 'Night at the Chinese Opera'. Daniel has also performed at Opera de Bauge, singing ‘Ramiro’ in Mozart’s ‘La Finta Gardiniera’ and covering Didymus in Handel’s Theodora. Last year Daniel performed in a new work by Dominique Le Gendre, a setting of Seamus Heaney’s ‘The Burial at Thebes’, directed by another Nobel Prize winner, Derek Walcott. It was the first ever opera to be performed at The Globe Theatre in London. Next year Daniel will be singing Nereno in guilio Cesare for opera de Bauge, and covering Oberon in Britten’s ‘A Midsummer nights Dream’ for Garsington Opera.
